Let’s face it. By the time you’re 55, how well you took care of yourself has begun to show (or may even be in full bloom).  If you’ve come up short in that department, you might be thinking about damage control.  There may still be time to soften the effects of too many bad lifestyle choices or too many excesses.  There may still be time to reverse the effects of eating the American Industrialized Diet for too many years.

This website is dedicated to my brothers and sisters of the Boomer Generation, who may have recently awakened to find they are closer to 70 than to forty (if not closer to 70 than to 50, like I am).  In my opinion,  it is more desirable to travel along in our final years as if on a long flat plateau before tumbling down the side of the plateau in the end.  That’s a metaphor for describing how I would like to maintain my health and fitness at some optimum level and die relatively quickly in the end.  Contrast that to being in a long downward spiral of declining health and quality of life that could last a couple of decades -before passing away as a long term resident of a nursing home.

Given a choice, I would opt for the plateau.

In the U.S., we, as a society, have been victimized, I feel, by the corporate food industry.  Who knew?  We’ve been led down the path by mass marketing to believe the industry had our best interests (our health) in mind.  It turns out not to be true.  The overall state of our collective health is evidence of that, as is the size of our collective waistlines.

The good news, for many, is the effects of eating the American Diet can be reversed.  With some basic knowledge we can eat healthy, stay away from what has been called edible food-like substances and see our general health improve.  Our immune systems will benefit.  We’ll feel better -and look better.

That is a snapshot of what the discussions on this website will revolve around.  I believe we can live much longer before we witness our health in decline.  If the notion of continuing to Enjoy life way beyond retirement strikes achord with you, you are invited to join the discussion.  Check back often as new posts will be added on a regular basis.  Provide commentary if you like and we’ll kick this around for as long as we can.

When you think of how fast the past 25 years has passed and consider the next 20 will fly by even faster -there is no time to waste.  It is time for Damage Control.  Hold the potato chips and join those of us who are, as Ms. Klaver puts it, “on the fringe of the White Bread Society.”  Your gut will thank you.
